Eberhardt Kronhausen & Phyllis Kronhausen – Freiheit für die Liebe AKA Freedom to Love [English dub] (1969)
Here’s something different… a vintage West German “white coater” hosted by bonafide sexologists PHYLLIS and EBERHARD KRONHAUSEN. And rather than rolling out the usual sex loops disguised as educational aids, the Kronhausens argue that sexual freedom (the “Freedom to Love”) ultimately benefits society, and that sexual suppression leads to criminality and divorce.
To prove their point, the scholarly couple present dramatizations of four cases from their files. The first involves a young mechanic who discovers the shocking truth about his sexually voracious girlfriend as he’s taken into custody by the vice squad… In the second segment, a lesbian couple are “outed” to the police by their outraged neighbors… And following a grim segment about illegal abortion, the final — and most explicit — vignette demonstrates how a troubled marriage is rescued when the lachrymose lovebirds join a raunchy swing club…
Interspersed throughout these cautionary tales are interviews with the movers and shakers of the sexual liberation movement, including Playboy publisher HUGH HEFNER, erotic artist BETTY DODSON and British drama critic KENNETH TYNAN who created Oh! Calcutta!, a long-running avant-garde theatrical revue. As an added bonus, the Kronhausens also toss in scenes from forbidden plays (including the often-busted The Beard, in which “Jean Harlow” meets “Billy the Kid”), snippets from the silent porn cartoon Buried Treasure, and other kitsch remnants from the days before the impact of Deep Throat made films such as this unnecessary.
From the 35mm oddly educational negative.
